Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola Wins Gold in Men’s Marathon

Tamirat Tola of Ethiopia claimed gold in the men’s marathon at the Paris 2024 Olympics with a dominant performance. Breaking away from the pack by the 18-mile mark, Tola extended his lead as he entered the final stretch, finishing in 2:05:36. His victory breaks a 24-year drought for Ethiopia in the Olympic marathon, with the last win coming in Sydney 2000. Belgium’s Bashir Abdi finished in second place, securing a silver medal with a time of 2:06:27, while Kenya’s Benson Kipruto took bronze in 2:07:00.
